Hottest governor gets the nod

As if having Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (pronounced pay-lin) win the recent Elected Hotties poll for female governors wasn't enough, now she's gone and won the heart of Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

We're just guessing the McCain crew had done its research and reached all the way across the United States and Canada and into the United States again to one of our nation's loneliest outposts — Alaska — to help combat the star power of the Obama camp.

We just like to think that we helped, because so many of you threw your votes behind Sarah before she won the Republican VP nod.

Sarah Palin
The hottest potential vice president ever!

Here at Elected Hotties, we couldn't help but wonder if an Obama/Palin ticket would have been the hottest presidential ticket since the Taft/Sherman ticket of 1908. We're pretty sure that would be the case.

Alas and alack, our two hottest candidates are from different parties. But Sarah is a winner in more ways than one: Outdoorsy = hot. New governing culture in Alaska = hot. Former beauty queen = hot.

See?

Poll results:
Sarah Palin: 74 percent
Jennifer Granholm: 16 percent
Christine Gregoire: 9 percent

Elected Hotties on vacation

Where, you ask, would Elected Hotties go on vacation?

A little place we like to call Saint Kitts. And Nevis. We're in Nevis, too.

It's the smallest nation in the Americas. And it's hot. Back before you know it.

Thursday, August 7, 2008

You know who you are

Dear Orem,

That's the best name we can think to call you right now. Don't you think we see the stream of clicks coming from you to Elected Hotties? We're guessing that you're voting for hometown hunk Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi. And you should.

But please vote once.

We really didn't think we were going to have to have this talk. But this is a fun blog, a family blog. And we don't want to have to explain to our little future elected hotties that some people will cheat (gasp!) just to make sure someone wins.

No doubt you've found a way around Blogger's cookie tracker that allows the honest people to vote once. Good for you.

Now stop it.

May the hotness be with you forever.

Love,

The editors

No. It's not just a song anymore. Give me these governors over purple-fruited plains any day. Whether you're headed to The Last Frontier, The Great Lakes State or The Evergreen State, you're going to find a pretty good looking woman in charge. Just something else that makes America great.

We've just found the hottest female governors in the United States and we're giving you a chance to vote on them. Aren't we wonderful?

Editorial: Ode to the Others

So a few things need to be said and we are going to say them. Though we tirelessly hunt for the hottest of the hot all over the state, once we present the candidates to our voters the results are out of our hands.

However, there have been a few times when we have sat helplessly while who we thought were clear favorites were brutally trounced in the polls. We winced as the polls closed and often searched for answers. Sometimes, hottie candidate “groupies” rally support for a favorite and recruit voters, some find ways to vote more than once and sometimes the photos we have just don't do the hottie justice.

Take Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. Granted, he was up against Farmington Mayor Scott "the Stunner" Harbertson, which could be daunting for anyone. But Becker's charm and good looks should have provided for a much tighter race.

Ralph Becker

Then there is Sen. Pat Jones. She's a looker. We've seen her in person and she is very well put together: stylish, poised and nary a hair out of place. Not to diminish Sen Margaret Dayton's squeaker victory, but we feel the poll photo fell tragically short of doing her justice. Our bad Pat.

Pat Jones

We applaud those who would be able to point out a bad picture to us and send us a more fitting one in the name of fairness.

Coincidently, the Senate men's race also had some of us scratching our heads. There is no doubt that Sen. Mark Madsen isn't too hard on the eyes. He's a tall drink of water with a winning smile. Nonetheless, EH feels that Sen. Scott McCoy was grossly overlooked. He is fit, tall with boyish good looks and a confident stride. How is it that he only got 13 percent of the vote people?!

Scott McCoy

Then in the Legislative finals once again Madsen comes out victorious against Rep. Greg Hughes, aka "Blue Eyes." Let’s face it, aside from those piercing baby blues he's got a set of playful dimples, raven hair and that oh-so-bronzed skin, yet he lost by a landslide. C'mon!

Greg Hughes

So we just want to let those candidates know that just because you fell short in the polls doesn't mean you're not smokin'. Thanks for being hot.

Hottest female official in Utah

Utah is buzzing, and not just because it's the Beehive State. Utah is buzzing for Amy Wicks, the Ogden City Councilwoman who was just elected the hottest female official in Utah.

This is a first for Elected Hotties, but a second for Amy, who was recently elected the hottest city councilwoman in Utah just two weeks ago.

From what we read, this honor couldn't have gone to a more deserving person. Not that the rest of the candidates wouldn't deserve this recognition, but there's a lot to say about Amy's sense of humor, flair for tackling city issues and her good looks.

Amy Wicks
Utah's Hottest!

Congratulations, Amy! And thanks to her supporters as well. This was another stunning victory with 272 votes cast.

Poll results:
Amy Wicks: 54 percent (147 votes)
Neka Roundy: 40 percent (110 votes)
Margaret Dayton: 2.9 percent (8 votes)
Karen Sunday: 2.5 percent (7 votes)

Pike peaks

When you're clambering over the boulders and up the mountain that is Elected Hotties, you have to understand that only one person can stand at the top at a time.

This week, it's St. George Councilman Jon Pike, who is at the peak, the pinnacle, the apex of hotness that can be obtained only by the hottest male city councilman in the state.

That's Jon, all right.

Jon Pike
Making St. George even hotter this summer!

This elected hottie joined the city council during a heated 2007 election season and is trying to figure out the best kind of airport to build down there. More here.

See you next week, when Jon takes on the other hotties for the men's state final.

UPDATE!!!
Jon just sent us this note:
Thanks for the good (and surprising) news! I definitely don't consider myself a "hottie", (and certainly my teenage daughters don't!), but an elected official will take any positive press he/she can get! I've visited your site, and it's really fun. I'll look forward to other "events" in the future.

In the meantime, you and your viewers are always welcome to come visit us in St. George, the "hottest" city!

Poll results:
Jon Pike: 44 percent (21 votes)
Scott Ericson: 21 percent (10 votes)
Paul Cutler: 12 percent (6 votes)
Michael Poff: 10 percent (5 votes) tie
Dave Richards: 10 percent (5 votes) tie

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what we've been waiting for. When we started back in February, we didn't think we would ever make it to this point. But we're finally here.

You've voted on city, county and state officials. But it's finally time to pick which one is the hottest of them all. This week, it's the ladies, and next week is the men.

Here's a little review to catch you up.

Representing Utah's city councils:

Amy Wicks
Ogden

Representing Utah's mayors:

Neka Roundy
Kaysville

Representing Utah's counties:

Karen Sunday
Morgan County

Representing the Utah Legislature:

Sen. Margaret Dayton

Happy voting. And if you don't vote and your favorite candidate loses, you have no one to blame but yourself.

You can't hold a candle to...

...Ogden Councilwoman Amy Wicks.

Our 20th Elected Hottie won a major battle of north vs. south over the past two weeks. An aggressive campaign to elect St. George Councilwoman Suzanne Allen got under way shortly after our poll was launched. But Amy had her share of local support, too.

So, what makes Amy so hot? Here we go:
According to her bio, she's been elected twice to the Ogden City Council and is the council's chairwoman. She works for the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome and was interviewed last week by STLtoday. When she's not debating the future of Ogden's water system, she loves (deep breath) snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, climbing and whitewater kayaking.

Amy Wicks
A chairwoman in the hot seat!

And you voters really came through for your councilwomen. The poll's 457 votes is an all-time record for Elected Hotties. Amy and Suzanne also broke records for votes cast for a winner and runner-up. Thanks for showing your support to these women.

Update! Suzanne, an awesome sport, left us a note here and added a plug for St. George Councilman Jon Pike.

UPDATE 2: Amy left us this note in response to our congratulatory e-mail:
I've received several awards through the years, mainly for accomplishments or service to my community- but nothing quite like this. I'm really at a loss for words, which for those who know me...is rare. Thank you for this unique and lighthearted honor.

Having been told countless times that I look almost exactly like my mother (except I'm four inches taller) I guess I should give some credit to her. Thanks mom, for giving me your good genes, as well as making me wear sunscreen and begging me to eat my fruits and vegetables.

On a parting note, I'm going to put a plug in here to vote for Paul Cutler of Centerville in the next poll. We are both are Viewmont High School alums from the late 1980's/early 1990's.

Poll results:
Amy Wicks: 41 percent (191 votes)
Suzanne Allen: 36 percent (165 votes)
Marci Satterthwaite: 12 percent (55 votes)
Anna Stanton: 9 percent (43 votes)
Charelle Bowman: .6 percent (3 votes)

Update!

Marci Satterthwaite, a councilwoman from Perry and very good sport, sent us a new (and smokin') picture for the ladies' poll.

You can see it here. Remember to vote!

Rocking your city's world

Poll No. 21

Elected Hotties is tired. Can you believe this blog has scoured Utah up and down looking for the hottest elected officials in the state. We've looked from Colorado City to Lewiston and from Wendover to Vernal. We even peeked into the state's corners a bit.

But we've finally come to our last semifinal poll: The hottest city councilmen in the state. The ladies' poll is halfway through, so get your votes in. But without further ado, we introduce the hottest men who currently grace the dais every other week.

Who's the man?

As if Farmington needed any help. The place is home to Lagoon, after all. That's what fun is.
But it wasn't what hot is, until now. And you have Farmington Mayor Scott Harbertson to thank.

He's so hot, in fact, that we need a cold shower just to keep writing this.

Scott vanquished the competition with a surprise win over Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. (audible gasp)

But the people have spoken. And who are we to judge? Well, we're happy judging that Scottie is the latest Hottie.

Scott Harbertson
Hottie for Life!

And if you can show up in the political arena and get elected on your first try, like Scott did in 2005, that's pretty hot.

Poll results:
Scott Harbertson: 53 percent
Ralph Becker: 30 percent
Ron Russell: 9 percent
Joe Thomas: 6 percent

Hot through it all

Poll No. 20

After slaving away at their regular jobs all day, the brave men and women of Utah's city councils gather to debate projects, property taxes and zoning. Occasionally, they have a spat or two with the mayor. Sometimes, they go until the wee hours of the morning with these discussions.

But this group of women manages to keep looking hot through the heaviest of discussions in council chambers. Check 'em out.

Charelle Bowman

Anna Stanton

Oh, and happy voting, if you decide to, that is.

Hottest female mayor

Not much voter turnout for this poll. What's your problem? We thought that if we actually gave you something to vote for, unlike this year's primary election, you'd turn out in droves. But you didn't, slackers.

Nevertheless, those who voted helped us pick Kaysville Mayor Neka Roundy as Utah's hottest female mayor. This former city councilwoman rose to the office of mayor in 2005 and can be spotted hosting a "Walk With the Mayor" event around Kaysville.

Neka Roundy
Please run in 2009!

Poll results:
Neka Roundy: 60 percent
Lou Ann Christensen: 40 percent

Who will be the next mayor of Hotsville?

Poll No. 19

Most people view their politicians just like their sprinkler system: Set it and forget it. Or in this case, elect them and forget them. Here are four mayors who will urge you, by their sheer good looks, to not forget about them. You don't want to forget about them. You can't forget about them.

You elected them. And you should be glad, because they're hot. Here they are: Your hottest male mayors. Can I get a motion?

Centerville Mayor
Ron Russell

Spanish Fork Mayor
Joe Thomas

Salt Lake City Mayor
Ralph Becker

Farmington Mayor
Scott Harbertson

To the rest of the cities in Utah, please get a website. If you have a website, please post some pics of your elected officials. Photos were hard to come by. All of the other cities in this nation, would you please follow suit?

Mad for Madsen

Elected Hotties: Nice job, Sen. Madsen. You won. Where are you going next?

Mark: I'm going to the finals, Baby!

Elected Hotties: That's right. Now that you've dispatched House hunk Greg Hughes, you will be going to our final round when the public determines who is the hottest elected official in Utah. That's in a few weeks.

Mark: I can't wait!

Elected Hotties: Neither can we, Mark. Neither can we.

Mark Madsen
Another legislative victory!

Poll results:
Mark Madsen: 77 percent
Greg Hughes: 22 percent

Monday, June 23, 2008

How hot is your mayor?

Poll No. 18

There's a serious shortage in this state, a shortage of female mayors. But we managed to find a couple of hot ones to go head to head to vie your vote. We're pitting Kaysville Mayor Neka Roundy against Brigham City Mayor Lou Ann Christensen. Have fun. And in the mean time, ladies, please run for office.

Neka Roundy

Dayton's day

Welcome back from the weekend. Sorry we weren't here for your Elected Hotties fix on Friday. You'll survive, probably.

But what we really need to document is the fact that the venerable senator from Orem, Margaret Dayton, pulled off a sneak-attack win over her younger counterpart from Salt Lake City, Jennifer Seelig.

Best of luck, Margaret. You'll represent the Utah Legislature's women in our poll of Utah's hottest elected officials in a few weeks.

Margaret Dayton, R-Orem
Actually, can we call you Maggie?

Poll results:
Margaret Dayton: 58 percent
Jennifer Seelig: 41 percent

Leg. semifinal, the men

Poll No. 17

Here's another quick and dirty poll.

Rep. Greg Hughes, R-Draper, took home the hottest title in the Utah House of Reps.
Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, took home the hottest title in the Utah Senate.

Now, it's up to you, America.

Which one of these hotties is going to represent the Utah Legislature in our final Utah poll in a few weeks?

Greg Hughes, R-Draper

Mark Madsen, R-Lehi

Remember, vote early.

A true senate majority

Not only is this Utah senator in the majority party, but he won the our most recent poll with more votes than anyone ever. He didn't get 100 votes or 110 or 120. Mark Madsen got 127 votes!

There's something going on here, something that can be explained by the following statements:

When the Boogeyman goes to bed at night, he checks his closet for Senator Madsen.
Senator Madsen does not sleep. He waits.
Superman owns a pair of Senator Madsen pajamas.
Senator Madsen doesn't wear a watch. He decides what time it is.
Senator Madsen can slam a revolving door.
Senator Madsen knows the wrong way to eat a Reese's.

The rest of the list can be found at The Senate Site.

Mark's been a fan of trying to help out the homeschooled kids get out more, but his bill to let them join public school's extracurricular activities, like sports teams, failed to make it to the head of the class.

Marky Mark and his Funky Bunch of Homeschoolers, boyyyyyyy!
Starring Mark Madsen, R-Lehi

Watch Mark take on Rep. Greg Hughes on Monday for the title of hottest guy in the Utah Legislature!

Poll results:
Mark Madsen: 49 percent
Sheldon Killpack: 34 percent
Scott McCoy: 13 percent
Darin Peterson: 2 percent
Ross Romero: .7 percent

Leg. semifinal, the ladies

Poll No. 16

Short and sweet here.
You voted for Rep. Jennifer Seelig, D-Salt Lake City, and she won.
You voted for Sen. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem, and she won.

So now you have to decide which of these fine ladies will represent the Utah Legislature in the contest for hottest female elected official in Utah.

Who's it gonna be? Just remember not to let this become a partisan race.

Jennifer Seelig, D-Salt Lake City

Margaret Dayton, R-Orem

Our winners so far
